Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
May/June Beans for Bags Spotlight!
In Jefferson County, many of the people who keep our community running, including caregivers, grocery workers, nonprofit staff, and others, cannot afford to live where they work. Through affordable homeownership and critical home repair programs, Habitat partners with local families to create stability and opportunity.
What are you excited about in 2026:
In 2026, we’re excited to be building 14 permanently affordable homes at Landes Terrace in Port Townsend, our largest neighborhood to date. This project represents a meaningful step forward in creating housing opportunities for local families who live and work in Jefferson County but have been priced out of the market. The homes provide long-term stability, improved health, and a foundation for the future.
How will the funds raised at the co-op help you reach your current goals:
Funds from the Food Co-op’s Beans for Bags program help cover essential building materials, support volunteer efforts, and provide homeowner education. Every contribution brings us closer to completing homes at Landes Terrace and expanding access to stable, affordable housing in our community.
Short success story:
Cale has lived in Port Townsend for over 15 years, working as a caregiver supporting people with intellectual disabilities. Despite contributing so much to the community, stable housing remained out of reach. Through Habitat, he now has a path to an affordable home of his own, offering stability, peace of mind, and the chance to put down roots in the place he serves.
New things happening at your organization for 2026:
Alongside construction at Landes Terrace, we’re continuing to grow our impact through critical home repair projects that help longtime residents, especially seniors remain safely in their homes. We’re also expanding community engagement opportunities, bringing more volunteers and local partners into the work of building homes and strengthening neighborhoods.
A history of your successes:
Since 1998, Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County has partnered with the community to build over 75 permanently affordable homes and complete dozens of critical home repairs. Each project reflects the power of neighbors coming together to create stability, opportunity, and a stronger community for everyone.
Together, these efforts help ensure that the people who care for our community can continue to live, work, and belong here.
