SNAP Produce Match now at the Co-op!

by Andrea Stafford, Marketing Manager

The Food Co-op is excited to announce its participation in the statewide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Produce Match  program, which partners with nearly 200 grocery stores across the state.

“It is clear now, more than ever, the vital role that grocery stores play in their communities. It is crucial that low-income families have access to healthy fruits and vegetables in every part of the state, particularly areas with limited access. Working with more grocery stores to offer incentives will enable more SNAP participants to purchase fruits and vegetables, positively impact ongoing food security efforts in Washington State, and improve the health of our   community members most in need.”

Tammie Hetrick, President and CEO of the Washington Food Industry Association.

SNAP Produce Match provides a way to increase your purchasing power for fruits and vegetables at the Co-op. Customers who purchase at least $10 in qualifying fruits and vegetables with their SNAP card will earn a $5 credit toward their produce purchase. It’s super easy, just let your cashier know before you pay with your SNAP card and they will apply the discount. You can also use this discount once for every purchase that meets the $10 produce cap.

By encouraging SNAP shoppers to participate in SNAP Produce Match, we are ensuring that individuals and families have year-round access to organic fruits and vegetables. Improving Food Access continues to and always will be an important value of the Food Co-op.  With the rising costs of organics and food in general, it is an honor to be able to offer SNAP produce match at our store.  Our hope is to add just a few more fruits or veggies, maybe even locally grown, to the homes that need it most and help “Nourish our Community,” our mission and commitment to the place we love and call home, East Jefferson County.

The Washington Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income individuals and families obtain a more nutritious diet by supplementing their income with SNAP benefits. In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Washington. If you or your family are in need of assistance, please visit https://www.washingtonconnection.org
