Jan/Feb Beans for Bags Spotlight: Just Soup

Just Soup is a weekly free lunch program that has been serving the community for more than a decade and is housed at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Port Townsend. On Mondays, a group of volunteers (the Choppers) meet to prepare large bowls of chopped onions, potatoes, carrots, and whatever the soup of the week requires. Each Tuesday, one of the volunteer cooks arrives early to create a delicious meal and we serve 100 or more lunches each week. Our volunteers come from throughout the Port Townsend area.

We are excited to have made the transition from having only Just Soup To-Go (implemented during the pandemic) to a hybrid service.  Many packed lunches are still picked up by people for themselves, their neighbors and the Welcoming Center downtown. As of mid-October, people have been joining us inside where they sit with old and new friends, are served by our wonderful volunteers and have as many bowls of soup as they like. Bread, fruit and desserts are available as well as lemonade, water, tea, and decaf coffee.

The funds raised from the Beans for Bags program will be used to continue our service of providing fresh and healthy meals to our community.  The soup ingredients are carefully sourced, and this program will help pay for the food we serve.

Thank you for your generosity!
