Little Free Cookbook Library

By Kenna S. Eaton, General Manager

I often read updates from other co‑ops and love learning about the creative things they’re doing. These stories frequently spark ideas for our own store. Recently, I saw a post from PCC Markets in Seattle about their “Little Free Cookbook Library,” and I immediately thought, we should have one of those.

After talking it over with a few teammates, we agreed it would be a wonderful addition to our store—something that celebrates our shared love of good food and the way cooking brings families, friends, and communities together.

Call for Design Proposals

We are inviting one of our members to design and build our Little Free Cookbook Library using recycled and reclaimed materials. The finished piece will be mounted on the wall in our dining area near the south exit.

Design requirements:

  • Size: 30" high x 30" wide x 12" deep

  • Materials: Recycled or reclaimed

  • Location: Wall-mounted in the dining area (near the south exit)

  • Beyond these basics, the design is up to you! Get creative.

Thank You Gift

The selected design will receive a $300 co‑op gift card as a thank-you and to help offset the time and materials involved in building the box.

How to Submit

Please include the following with your submission:

  • Your name

  • Membership number

  • Contact information

  • Dimensions of your design

  • A sketch of the proposed library

Drop off your completed submission at the Customer Service Desk (CSD).

Design submission deadline: February 28

Cookbook Donations (Coming Soon)

Once the library is built and installed—hopefully sometime this spring—we will invite members to donate cookbooks they no longer need. Please wait for that announcement, as we don’t have space to store cookbooks in the meantime.

We’re excited about this project and look forward to seeing your creative ideas!
