Safe, Seen and Supported!
Our March/April Bean of Bags Recipient Dove House is Creating Pathways to healing for survivors across our community!
Dove House has been providing advocacy services to Jefferson County residents who have been victims of any type of crime and/or are in recovery from trauma for more than 40 years. We believe in treating clients with respect and dignity, providing for their basic needs, and inspiring and supporting hope. Our services are confidential, wrap-around, trauma-informed, person-centered, and free of charge.
Dove House walks along with survivors while providing tangibles to support them as they heal from traumatic events. Advocates can be called to support nurses with SANE exams at the hospital, the local police with Domestic Violence needing housing and support, the Court House with Protective Orders, and schools with reports of assault. Dove House has a 24-hour crisis line, DV Shelter, Transitional Housing, and 2 free little pantries. With all our programs we are able to service clients with basic tangible necessities such as food and clothing while also offering community in many different ways.
One way is the Recovery Cafe. Recovery Cafe offers a warm and safe place for all that are looking for a place of belonging. The cafe offers meals noon-2 Tuesday-Friday, opportunities to grow through circles, events such as open mic night, and a space that many in our community use to charge phones, use free WIFI, and get shower caddies, blankets, and meet with other services providers in our community. The cafe is a place of belonging while giving back in many different ways while building a community.
Dove House Closet is a place where every person in our community has access to clean and quality clothing, regardless of their circumstances. We believe in fostering a sense of community and reducing barriers to essential resources like clothing. It is a place where everyone in our community can access free clothing with dignity and respect.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, please look at our website for events we will be having throughout the month. It is the 25th anniversary of this Sexual Assault Awareness month. We will focus on somatic processes to address complex trauma and discuss accessing the limbic system as another form of healing from trauma. Join us in discussion about trauma around sexual assault, somatic practices to reset the nervous system, support survivors of sexual assault with wearing the color teal all month, and wear denim on April 29th to speak out against victim blaming
