Because Growing Old Deserves Growing Love

Our March/April Bean of Bags Recipient Gray Muzzle Project is Writing Beautiful Endings for Senior Dogs

The Gray Muzzle Project is a grassroots, volunteer run nonprofit with a mission to help provide forever homes and hospice care to senior and special needs dogs who fall through the cracks of traditional animal welfare systems.  The group networks with other animal welfare groups to help take on elderly and special needs dogs who are often overlooked or simply unadoptable due to medical conditions.

In 2025 The Gray Muzzle Project opened it's doors and has made a commitment to 5 senior resident dogs who now call the sanctuary home.  In 2026 the organization hopes to diversify its volunteer program allowing the expansion of care to more dogs who need a soft place to land in their golden years.

Mission

  • Provide forever homes and hospice care to special needs senior dogs on the Olympic Peninsula.

Vision

  • We dream of a world where senior dogs' last days are spent in comfort and peace.

Values

  • Compassionate Care

    • We believe that every dog deserves the opportunity to grow old in a peaceful and fear free setting. We honor each dog as an individual, with consideration for their will to both live and die with dignity, surrounded by love and compassion.

  • Community Collaboration

    • The Gray Muzzle Project values maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with local and regional animal rescue organizations by providing a transfer option for senior dogs either not thriving in a shelter environment or that are difficult to adopt/foster. The Gray Muzzle project aims to support local farmers and small businesses by choosing locally sourced food and supplies.

  • Supporting the Human Animal Bond

    • We believe that animals have the ability to enrich our lives. We strive to be the people our dogs think we are. We believe that as we invest in the healing of animals, we heal ourselves, and each other.
